Thanks to LinkedIn’s handy “anniversary” reminders, I remembered (/learned) that this month signifies something that’s actually kind of shocking.

It was two years ago that my little “side biz” went full-time. It was two years ago that I quit my 9–5, said goodbye to routine and benefits, and jumped into the entrepreneurial pool full-time.

It took me more than a decade of “trying to learn” how to code to actually learn to code.

Starting in high school I had a burning desire to learn the exotic languages of computer programming. Like most, my interest began in a computer class while playing around with HTML. But it was only about a year and a half ago that I finally felt competent coding. Maybe I’m not going to blow the doors off, but man, does it feel great to say “I can code.”

Recently, Tecla was featured on two Canada-wide morning talkshows – Canada AM and The Social – along with Tecla's first beta tester, Carolyn Pioro. Over 10 years ago, Carolyn had an accident on the flying trapeze while working as a circus performer and was paralyzed from the shoulders down. She now lives with quadriplegia and uses Tecla to access her mobile devices, tablets, and home automation systems.
